Welding Coordinator / QC Inspector — ISO 3834-2 Manufacturing Facility

Location: Crown Mines, Johannesburg ·

Type: Permanent, full-time

Reports to: Contracts Manager

Klaus Engineering Group is a fabrication manufacturer certified to ISO 3834-2 and ISO 9001.

Our product range includes pressure equipment manufactured under SANS 347 and the Pressure Equipment Regulations, with Approved Inspection Authority involvement, certificates of manufacture and nameplating.

We are appointing a Welding Coordinator / QC Inspector to take ownership of our welding quality system.

The role

  • Own the welder qualification register — qualification to ISO 9606, six-monthly confirmations and revalidation.
  • Write, qualify and approve welding procedure specifications; witness and sign off procedure qualification records.
  • Conduct technical reviews before manufacture — parent material, joint design, acceptance criteria, NDT accessibility.
  • Control welding consumables and materials, including storage, baking and holding, batch traceability and EN 10204 3.1 certification.
  • Inspect before, during, and after welding in accordance with ISO 5817 and contract-specified codes.
  • Coordinate external NDT, review reports against acceptance criteria, and control post-weld heat treatment including thermocouple placement and chart sign-off.
  • Raise and close non-conformances; manage concessions and repair procedures.
  • Maintain calibration and equipment validation, including welding equipment validation to ISO 17662.
  • Compile final data books and carry the welding quality system through ISO 3834-2 and ISO 9001 surveillance audits.

Requirements

  • IIW International Welding Specialist (IWS), Technologist (IWT) or Engineer (IWE).
  • Current welding inspection certification — SAIW Welding & Fabrication Inspector Level 2, IIW IWI-S, CSWIP 3.1 or higher, or AWS CWI.
  • Demonstrable experience maintaining ISO 3834-2 in a certified facility, including facing external auditors and closing out findings.
  • A record of personally qualifying welders and welding procedures and signing WPSs on an employer's behalf.
  • Inspection experience across at least three of MIG/MAG (135/136), TIG (141), MMA (111) and submerged arc (121), covering carbon and stainless steel.
  • Five years or more in welding quality control, of which at least two carrying coordination-level responsibility.

Advantageous

  • SANS 347 / Pressure Equipment Regulations experience and work alongside an Approved Inspection Authority.
  • Post-weld heat treatment control; ISO 17662 equipment validation.
  • A boilermaker, plater or welder trade background.
  • ISO 9001 internal auditing; ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 exposure.
