Job Advert: Shift Supervisor
Purpose of the Position
The Shift Leader is responsible for managing and coordinating production activities during an assigned shift to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality manufacturing operations. The role will oversee production teams, monitor machine performance, ensure adherence to production schedules, and drive continuous improvement within the plastic injection moulding environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise, lead, and support production employees during the allocated shift.
- Ensure production targets, quality standards, and delivery schedules are achieved.
- Monitor and control plastic injection moulding processes to ensure optimal machine performance.
- Coordinate machine start-ups, changeovers, mould changes, and production runs.
- Ensure correct machine settings, parameters, and processes are followed.
- Identify and resolve production issues, machine stoppages, and quality concerns.
- Conduct regular production floor inspections and ensure compliance with company procedures.
- Ensure all employees follow health, safety, and housekeeping standards.
- Monitor product quality and implement corrective actions where required.
- Complete production reports, downtime reports, and shift handover documentation.
- Manage attendance, discipline, and performance of team members.
- Provide coaching, training, and guidance to operators and production staff.
- Work closely with Maintenance, Quality, and Production teams to improve efficiency.
- Promote continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and increase productivity.
- Ensure proper use and care of machinery, tools, and equipment.
Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric (Math and English) essential.
- Relevant qualification in Production, Manufacturing, or Engineering will be advantageous.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a plastic injection moulding manufacturing environment.
- With atleast 1-2 years experience in a supervisory or shift leader role.
- Strong knowledge of injection moulding machines, mould changes, and production processes.
- Experience with machine settings, troubleshooting, and process optimisation.
- Ability to read and understand production schedules and technical instructions.
- Knowledge of quality standards and manufacturing procedures.
- Good leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage a team effectively.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and overtime as required.
