Job description

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  • To coordinate the team's analytical testing on Raw Materials, Production Samples, Final Products and water in a safe manner

BALANCED SCORECARD PILLARS, ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT AND QUALITY

  • Identify and assess level of continuous risk exposures in area of responsibility by considering exposures to business, financial, legal issues, people, equipment, material, environment, processes, etc.
  • Consider the level of risk, apply mitigation and implement control measures for residual risk (set objectives, minimum requirements, etc.)
  • Comply with SHEQ requirements (SHEQ Toolbox)
  • Utilise the Integrated Management System (IMS) to initiate, investigate and report SHEQ status

CUSTOMERS

  • Maintain and improve relationships with key stakeholders
  • Interact with customer and familiarise with operational concerns/trends
  • Ensure Customer Satisfaction as specified

BUSINESS PROCESSES

  • Ensuring all samples are prepared according to the required techniques and standards and preparing a range of samples when required
  • Oversee equipment first line maintenance on shift
  • The calibration and preparation of the specific laboratory equipment required to do the various chemical analysis
  • Evaluating the acceptability of calibration and verification of equipment
  • Stock control of consumable items and equipment spares
  • Participation in method validation of analytical methods
  • The use of specific chemical analysis techniques, methods and equipment to measure and determine the chemical components of all samples
  • Control of all Laboratory activities during shift and responding appropriately to problems, emergencies, requests and incidents
  • Prepare, Analyse and Report on all samples on all equipment
  • Ensure that all data that need to be transferred on LIMS is correctly entered on LIMS
  • Monitor product specification and trends
  • Update and approve results on LIMS
  • Replenishes consumable used
  • Logging of quality control standards on LIMS and report results within their limits(SPC limits)
  • Ensure back-ups are done on instruments as per SOP
  • Record and report all laboratory operational non-conformances
  • Ensure all equipment checklists are completed during shift
  • Ensure that the turn-around-time for the shift is adhered to for all analyses
  • Liaison with operational departments per shift on abnormalities or urgent analyses
  • Complete shift reports
  • Conduct green room meetings
  • Carry legal appointment for technical signatory
  • Participate in round robin analysis

WORKPLACE COMPETENCIES:

Systems:

  • Computer literate – Microsoft Office
  • Samancor systems: IMS, EBMS, Chromedoc, LIMS, COUPA, MES

Job Skills:

  • Method validation and uncertainty measurement
  • Basic statistics and report writing skills

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrate and apply an understanding of ISO 17025 requirements

  • ICAM and RCFA Methodology

  • Degree / National Diploma in Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry or Analytical Chemistry or N4 certificate for internal candidates

  • 3 years relevant Analytical Laboratory experience

Additional certificates:

  • ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory standards training
