Job Advert Summary

St Peter's College is an independant Anglican Diocesan school for boys and girls from Grade 8 to Grade 12. The school was founded in 1998 to meet the demand for a co-educational high school in northern Sandton. St Peter's College offers and integrated and relevant South African high school eductation.

The aim of the College is to ensure that individual potential is achieved through exposure to a wide range of excellent academic, spiritual, sporting, creative, cultural and community activities. Our goal is to create and maintain an environment where trust and respect for the individual prevails, where diversity and inclusion are valued, and where individual responsibility is fostered within the context of teamwork.

St Peter's College is currently seeking to appoint a committed, reliable and hardworking Senior Physical Science Teacher to start 1 January 2027

Minimum Requirements

  • Completed Post Matric Tertiary qualification majoring in Science
  • Must have more than five years’ experience teaching Physical Science (Grades 10-12)
  • Experience in teaching the Independent Examination Board (IEB) Physical Sciences curriculum is advantageous
  • Experience in marking the IEB NSC Examinations is also advantageous
  • Must have experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning, preparing, and delivering engaging and curriculum-aligned Physical Science lessons for learners in Grades 10–12.
  • Teaching scientific concepts, theories, practical skills, and laboratory techniques in a manner that promotes understanding and critical thinking.
  • Developing and implementing lesson plans, assessments, and learning activities that cater to diverse learner needs and abilities.
  • Assessing learner performance through formal and informal assessments, providing constructive feedback, and maintaining accurate academic records.
  • Creating a positive, disciplined, and inclusive classroom environment that supports effective teaching and learning.
  • Conducting and supervising practical experiments and investigations while ensuring compliance with laboratory safety procedures and regulations.
  • Managing, maintaining, and monitoring laboratory equipment, chemicals, and resources, and reporting any maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Supporting learners' academic progress through intervention, enrichment, and additional academic support where required.
  • Integrating technology and innovative teaching methodologies to enhance learner engagement and achievement.
  • Communicating effectively with learners, parents, and colleagues regarding academic progress, learner support, and curriculum matters.
  • Participating in departmental meetings, parent consultations, school events, professional development activities, and other school-related responsibilities.
  • Contributing to curriculum development, moderation processes, examination preparation, and continuous improvement initiatives within the Science Department.
  • Upholding school policies, professional standards, and safeguarding responsibilities while contributing positively to the school's culture, values, and academic objectives.
