Senior Google Cloud Engineer / Architect

Opennetworks is looking for a Senior Google Cloud Engineer / Architect to design, build, and support enterprise-grade cloud, data, and AI solutions for some of South Africa’s best known brands. You will serve as a trusted technical partner, driving large-scale cloud modernization, infrastructure design, and ongoing support for complex enterprise environments. Role also requires fluency in Teraform (Infrastructure as Code)

Note: While primary expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is ideal, we warmly welcome Senior AWS or Microsoft Azure Engineers / Architects looking to transition and cross-skill into the Google Cloud ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

• Enterprise Solution Architecture: Architect, deploy, and maintain secure, highly available GCP infrastructure tailored for enterprise-scale workloads.
• Technical Leadership & Support: Act as an escalation point and technical advisor for enterprise clients, guiding their engineering teams through complex cloud operations.
• Migration & Modernization: Plan and execute seamless workloads migrations from On-Prem to Cloud, Deployment of landing zones, and containerization initiatives.
• Data & AI Infrastructure: Partner with our Data & AI practice to support BigQuery analytics foundations, serverless data pipelines, and AI deployments.
• Security & Optimization: Implement robust IAM, POPIA-compliant security controls, monitoring, and FinOps cloud cost optimization strategies.

Requirements & Experience

• Enterprise Background: 5+ years of hands-on experience in cloud architecture or engineering, with demonstrated experience supporting enterprise clients.
• Cloud Mastery: Deep expertise in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) OR senior-level expertise in AWS / Azure with a desire to upskill to GCP.
• Technical Toolkit: Strong command of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), Docker/Kubernetes (GKE/EKS/AKS), CI/CD pipelines, VPC networking, and hybrid cloud setups.
• Soft Skills: Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills to articulate complex technical decisions to executive teams.
• Certifications: GCP Professional Cloud Architect/DevOps Engineer, or equivalent senior-level AWS/Azure certifications.
• Pre-Sales: Design documentation, architectural diagrams, configuration documentation, and infrastructure audit documentation
