Job description
Job Purpose
The Chartered Accountant (CA(SA)) is responsible for overseeing the company's financial reporting, statutory compliance, financial controls, budgeting, and audit processes. The role ensures the integrity of financial information, supports strategic decision-making, and drives continuous improvements in financial operations while maintaining compliance with IFRS, South African legislation, and company policies.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Reporting
- Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS.
- Ensure timely month-end and year-end financial close processes.
- Analyse financial performance and provide meaningful management reports.
- Prepare consolidated financial statements where applicable.
Financial Management
- Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
- Conduct financial analysis to support strategic business decisions.
- Monitor expenditure and identify opportunities for cost optimisation.
- Review and approve balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with IFRS, Companies Act, SARS regulations, and other statutory requirements.
- Oversee tax compliance, including VAT, PAYE, Corporate Income Tax, and provisional tax.
- Maintain strong internal financial controls and ensure compliance with company policies.
- Manage statutory reporting and regulatory submissions.
Audit Management
- Lead external and internal audit processes.
- Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation.
- Liaise with auditors and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Implement audit recommendations and strengthen financial controls.
Treasury & Cash Management
- Monitor cash flow and working capital.
- Review bank reconciliations and treasury transactions.
- Support foreign exchange and intercompany transactions where applicable.
Business Partnering
- Partner with department heads to provide financial guidance and insights.
- Present financial reports and recommendations to senior management.
- Support business planning and investment decisions through financial modelling.
Process Improvement
- Identify and implement improvements to finance processes and internal controls.
- Drive automation and efficiencies within finance operations.
- Ensure compliance with company financial policies and procedures.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor finance team members where applicable.
- Review work completed by junior accountants.
- Support staff development and performance management.
Minimum RequirementsQualifications
- Chartered Accountant (South Africa) – CA(SA) designation (essential).
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- SAICA Articles completed.
