Job description
Purpose
The Integration Specialist is responsible for the design, development, testing, monitoring and support of integration between TNPA’s SAP systems, other Transnet business systems, and the systems of TNPA’s customers and partners, in accordance with agreed standards. The role ensures smooth, reliable and secure system-to-system integration that complements TNPA’s port operations.
The incumbent owns the integration layer across the landscape – including SAP Process Integration / Process Orchestration (PI / PO) and related middleware – building and maintaining interfaces and ensuring the ongoing operation of the integration environment.
Responsibilities
- Define and design system-integration requirements and produce integration design specifications and documentation.
- Design, build, test and document integration interfaces between TNPA SAP systems, other Transnet systems and external customer / partner systems from agreed specifications.
- Develop and support integration objects using SAP PI / PO (and / or SAP Cloud Platform Integration / Integration Suite) and related adapters.
- Implement integration via Web Services, JSON, RFC, IDoc, XML, JMS and EDIFACT, and support enterprise communication standards such as AS1, AS2 and AS3.
- Monitor the integration environment, proactively detect and resolve interface failures, and manage message reprocessing and error handling.
- Perform data modelling, mapping and structured reviews, and conduct integration and regression testing.
- Ensure integration solutions adhere to security, performance and governance standards, and manage changes through the transport / change landscape.
- Provide production support for interfaces in line with the agreed SLAs and maintain interface inventories and documentation.
- Evaluate new integration technologies and industry practices to drive continuous improvement.
- Liaise with SAP functional / technical teams, the Basis team, business stakeholders, vendors and the Project Manager, and provide training and support as required.

- Diagnosing and resolving interface failures quickly to avoid operational impact.
- Maintaining secure, standards-compliant integration across organisational boundaries (customers and partners).
Decision Making
- Determine integration patterns, technologies and design approaches within agreed standards.
- Recommend middleware, adapter and error-handling solutions.
- Assess the impact of integration changes across connected systems.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree / National Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- 3–5 years’ SAP / enterprise integration development and support experience.
- Experience with SAP PI / PO (and / or SAP Integration Suite / CPI) is required; WebMethods or equivalent middleware experience is advantageous.
- Java and / or SQL competency is advantageous.
Skills Required
- Strong knowledge of systems integration via Web Services, JSON, RFC, IDoc, XML, JMS and EDIFACT.
- Knowledge of enterprise communication standards (AS1, AS2, AS3).
- Experience with SAP PI / PO / Integration Suite and integration monitoring and error handling.
- Data-modelling, mapping and interface-design skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, documentation and communication skills.
