Job Purpose
The Sales Manager is responsible for leading and managing the sales team to achieve revenue targets, expand market share, and maintain excellent customer relationships. This role involves developing sales strategies, monitoring performance, coaching staff, and ensuring operational efficiency within the sales function.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement effective sales strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Set sales targets and KPIs for the sales team.
- Analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitor activity to inform strategy.
- Plan sales campaigns, promotions, and initiatives to drive revenue growth.
2. Team Leadership & Management
- Lead, motivate, and manage the sales team to achieve targets.
- Conduct performance appraisals, provide coaching, and implement development plans.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance regularly.
- Recruit, train, and retain high-performing sales staff.
3. Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and accounts.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and address complaints or escalations.
- Identify opportunities for upselling, cross-selling, and repeat business.
4. Sales Operations & Administration
- Monitor and report on sales performance, KPIs, and revenue against targets.
- Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and agreements.
- Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with marketing, logistics, and finance teams to ensure smooth operations.
5. Market Analysis & Reporting
- Track sales trends, competitor activity, and market developments.
- Provide regular reports and insights to senior management.
- Identify potential risks and opportunities in the market.
6. Process Improvement & Strategic Initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve sales processes, team productivity, and customer experience.
- Implement best practices and innovations to enhance sales effectiveness.
- Support strategic initiatives and projects as required.
Qualifications & Experience
- Grade 12 / Matric certificate (required).
- Diploma or degree in Sales, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in sales, with at least 2 years in a managerial or team-lead role.
- Proven track record of achieving sales targets and managing teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CRM systems.
