Purpose of the Role
The Reporting Accountant ensures accurate, timely financial reporting, maintains the integrity of financial information and provides analysis that supports sound business decision-making across the Group.
Working closely with the Group Reporting Manager and finance teams across our African operations, this role combines technical accounting, analytical thinking, strong controls and a continuous drive to improve how we report.
Candidate Profile
We are seeking a technically strong, analytically minded accounting professional who enjoys financial reporting, problem-solving and improving processes. The successful candidate will have strong financial accounting knowledge, excellent attention to detail and the confidence to work with large volumes of data while collaborating across multiple African operations.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
1. Financial Reporting
Responsible for preparing accurate, reliable and meaningful financial information that supports operational and strategic decision-making across the Group.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports in line with IFRS and Group requirements
- Support consolidated reporting schedules, management packs and variance commentary
- Ensure reporting deadlines are met through effective coordination with finance teams
- Maintain General Ledger integrity and consistent Group reporting standards
- Continuously improve reporting quality, consistency and usefulness
2. Technical Accounting
Ensure financial information integrity through sound accounting practices, reconciliations and consistent application of IFRS and Group policies.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations, journals and supporting schedules
- Support month-end, year-end, fixed asset and depreciation accounting
- Prepare audit schedules, working papers and appropriate supporting documentation
- Identify accounting issues, reporting risks or control weaknesses and escalate where required
- Maintain effective internal financial controls and adherence to finance procedures
3. Financial Analysis & Data Interpretation
Use financial information to identify trends, explain performance and provide practical insights that support management decision-making.
- Analyse results, variances, trends and unusual movements requiring management attention
- Prepare concise commentary on revenue, expenditure, margins and profitability
- Support budgeting and forecasting through analysis of historical performance
- Use ERP data and advanced Excel to improve reporting quality and automate repetitive tasks
- Power BI or similar reporting tool exposure would be advantageous
4. ERP Systems & Reporting Improvement
Contribute to improving the efficiency, quality and integrity of financial reporting through effective ERP use and process enhancement.
- Maintain Sage X3 reporting structures, hierarchies, account mappings and templates
- Identify opportunities to improve reporting quality and efficiency through ERP functionality
- Support finance users with reporting-related system queries and process enhancements
- Sage X3 or comparable ERP experience would be advantageous
5. Budgeting & Forecasting
Support budgeting and forecasting by providing reliable financial information and meaningful analysis.
- Support annual budgets, periodic forecasts and variance analysis
- Assist with financial modelling and scenario analysis where required
- Provide accurate financial information for planning and management decisions
6. Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to streamline reporting, improve data quality and enhance management reporting across the Finance function.
- Recommend improvements to reporting processes, controls and templates
- Improve reporting quality, integrity and efficiency
- Support automation of repetitive reporting using ERP functionality and Excel
- Promote best practice in reporting, analysis and process improvement
Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications
- BCom Accounting or equivalent accounting qualification
- Completed SAICA Articles or equivalent professional training will be advantageous
- AGA(SA) or a similar professional accounting qualification will be advantageous
Experience
- Approximately 4–6 years' experience in financial reporting, management reporting or financial accounting
- Experience in a medium to large corporate environment, ideally multinational or multi-company
- Experience preparing management reports, financial analysis and balance sheet reconciliations
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting and ERP-based reporting
Technical Competencies
Accounting & Reporting
- IFRS, financial reporting and General Ledger accounting
- Balance sheet reconciliations, journal preparation and fixed asset accounting
- Month-end reporting and supporting schedules
Systems & Technology
- Sage X3 or comparable ERP experience advantageous
- Advanced Excel, including Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP, SUMIFS and Power Query
- Power BI or similar reporting tool exposure advantageous
