Job description
Registered Nurse (Labour Ward)
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients during labour, delivery, and the immediate post-delivery period.
- Monitor maternal and foetal wellbeing and promptly identify and escalate any deviations from normal findings.
- Assist obstetricians and other healthcare professionals during normal and assisted deliveries.
- Prepare patients and equipment for obstetric procedures and emergency interventions.
- Perform ongoing assessments and implement appropriate nursing interventions within the scope of practice.
- Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately.
- Provide emotional support and education to mothers and their families throughout the childbirth experience.
- Assist with neonatal care immediately after birth, including basic neonatal resuscitation where required.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely patient documentation.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold hospital policies and professional standards.
- Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to promote optimal patient outcomes.
Requirements
- Grade 12
- Must be willing to work shifts as required by Units
- Adaptable and able to work effectively in a team
- Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a Registered Nurse in a Labour Ward environment with a Private Hospital
- Diploma or Degree in General Nursing and Midwifery.
- Advanced Midwifery qualification (Advantageous)
- Current proof of SANC registration
