The successful incumbent will be responsible for ensuring adherence to legislative requirements, company policies, audit standards, and operational best practices relating to firearms and canine deployments. Firearms Compliance Management Ensure compliance with the Firearms Control Act, PSIRA Regulations, and company firearm policies. Conduct monthly firearm compliance audits across all operational sites. Perform weekly virtual firearm inspections and compliance monitoring. Verify firearm competency certificates, training records, and legal compliance of armed officers. Monitor firearm storage facilities, safes, key control systems, and access procedures. Ensure proper firearm issuing, receiving, and ammunition control processes are followed. Manage firearm registers, permit books, discharge registers, and related documentation. Investigate firearm-related incidents, losses, damages, and unauthorized discharges. Identify compliance risks and implement corrective actions. Canine Compliance Management Oversee compliance of all canine operations within the region. Conduct inspections of canine facilities, kennels, handlers, and deployed service dogs. Ensure all dog handlers maintain valid qualifications and certifications. Coordinate canine refresher training and certification renewals. Monitor canine welfare, operational readiness, and deployment standards. Training and Development Manage the annual Regulation 21 Firearm Refresher Programme. Coordinate firearm competency assessments and shooting range activities. Facilitate firearm safety training, toolbox talks, and compliance awareness programmes. Assess training requirements and ensure armed personnel remain compliant with legislative requirements. Monitor training records and maintain compliance tracking systems. Auditing and Reporting Conduct compliance audits and maintain audit schedules. Compile and submit detailed audit reports, findings, and corrective action plans. Maintain workforce compliance registers and certification databases. Ensure accurate record keeping and management of firearm and canine compliance documentation. Prepare management reports on regional compliance performance and risks. Operational Governance and Risk Management Monitor operational compliance across all armed and canine deployments. Ensure only legally compliant officers are deployed with company firearms. Remove non-compliant personnel from firearm or canine duties when required. Implement corrective actions to address identified compliance gaps. Support investigations relating to operational, firearm, or canine compliance matters. Liaise with operational management and Head Office on compliance-related matters. Stakeholder Management Engage with SAPS, PSIRA, training providers, and regulatory authorities as required. Provide guidance and support to Site Managers and Responsible Persons. Act as the primary regional contact for firearm and canine compliance matters. Ensure implementation of corporate directives, policies, and procedures. Administration and Record Management Maintain accurate personnel compliance files and electronic records. Monitor expiry dates of competencies, certificates, permits, and licences. Manage regional compliance trackers and renewal schedules. Ensure all firearm and canine compliance records are audit-ready at all times. SHEQ and ISO Compliance Adhere to Thorburn Security Solutions' Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality Management Systems. Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 18788 requirements. Promote a culture of safety, compliance, and continuous improvement. Ad Hoc Responsibilities Perform any additional lawful and reasonable duties as delegated by management. Assist with special compliance projects, investigations, and operational initiatives as required. Key Success Measures 100% firearm and canine compliance across the region. Accurate maintenance of compliance records and reporting. Full adherence to legislative, customer, and corporate requirements.### Skills and Competencies

Technical Competencies Advanced knowledge of the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000) and related regulations. Sound understanding of PSIRA legislation, standards, and compliance requirements. Extensive knowledge of firearm handling, storage, issuing, and ammunition control procedures. Knowledge of canine operations, deployment standards, welfare requirements, and handler management. Experience in conducting compliance inspections, audits, and risk assessments. Knowledge of security operations management and tactical deployments. Understanding of ISO 18788 Security Operations Management Systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
