Job description
Mission
The purpose of the R&D Test Technician is to support the R&D team with the preparation and operation of tests in a safe and timeous manner and maintain the equipment in the State-of-the-Art testing facility. The responsibilities of the position will include, but not be limited to, the following tasks.
- Assist in the fabrication/preparation of testing samples and concept.
- Operate testing equipment in accordance with the defined methodology.
- Maintenance of the testing equipment and facilities.
- Task allocation and administrative management of team personnel.
Enforcing adherence to good worksmaship standards.

Competencies required
Fabrication and Fitting Work:
- Arc and gas cutting.
- Assembly of machines.
- Operating a cold circular saw.
- Operation of hand tools.
- Operation of power tools.
- Interpretation of engineering drawings.
Testing* Operating production equipment (competency and training will be assessed per machine and project).
- Operation of R&D testing equipment (competency and training will be assessed per machine and project).
- Computer literacy (Basic MS Suite).
General
- Housekeeping of Engineering operational areas.
- English Language Communication (Oral, read & written).
- Ensuring engineering tools are adequately maintained.
- Ensuring the material and spares required to perform the work are correct.
- Aptitude and willingness to learn and develop technical skills.
- Carry out any reasonable request from a superior.
Qualifications Requirements
Preferred:
- Matric.
- Millwright or Electrician qualifications.
- Welding and Fitter experience.
- Team management experience advantageous.
Knowledge & Experience
- Mechanical machinery experience.
- Technical experience or education of a technical nature.
- Electronic experience: reading of schematics, soldering.
