Job description
Job Purpose
- To ensure effective implementation, monitoring, and control of the Quality Management System across manufacturing operations, ensuring compliance with customer requirements, internal procedures, and applicable standards including ISO 3834, ASME, and ISO 9001.
- The role focuses on quality assurance, inspection control, audit readiness, traceability, and verification of welding and fabrication quality outputs.
Key Performance Areas
Job Requirements
1. Quality Assurance (QA) – Systems & Compliance.
- Implement and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS).
- Ensure alignment with ISO 9001, ISO 3834, and ASME requirements.
- Control quality procedures, inspection plans (ITPs), and quality documentation.
- Ensure document control, record integrity, and audit readiness.
- Monitor and enforce corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
2. Quality Control & Inspection
- Oversee inspection activities across incoming, in-process, and final stages.
- Verify compliance with Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
- Review inspection results and ensure proper release or rejection of products.
- Ensure calibration control of measuring and testing equipment.
- Manage Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and follow-up actions
3. Welding Quality Verification (Non-Technical Oversight).
- Verify compliance of welding activities with approved documentation and standards.
- Ensure availability and correct application of WPS, PQR, and WPQ (controlled by Welding Engineer).
- Monitor welding quality performance trends (defects, repairs, rejection rates).
- Ensure weld traceability, inspection coverage, and NDT completion.
Coordinate with Welding Engineer and third-party inspectors during audits
4. Documentation & Traceability Control
- Ensure full traceability of materials, welds, and manufactured components.
- Review material certificates (MTCs) for compliance.
- Ensure completeness of Manufacturing Data Books / Quality Dossiers.
Maintain quality records required for ASME and customer handover
5. Audit & Compliance Management
- Plan and conduct internal quality audits.
- Support external audits (customer, certification bodies, ASME Authorized Inspection).
- Track audit findings and ensure timely closure.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 3834 and ASME.
6. Supplier & Customer Quality
- Monitor supplier quality performance and incoming inspection results.
- Manage supplier NCRs and corrective actions.
- Support customer complaints investigation and resolution.
- Act as quality interface for customer inspections and audits.
7. Continuous Improvement
- Analyse quality data to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Drive reduction of scrap, rework, and Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ).
- Support Lean initiatives within production processes.
- Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) and problem-solving activities.
8. Monthly Quality Reports
- Quality Performance Report – Overall KPIs (FPY, defect rates, rework, scrap, COPQ)
- Non-Conformance & CAPA Report – NCR trends, root causes, corrective action effectiveness
- Inspection & Testing Report – Summary of inspections, NDT outcomes, and ITP compliance
- Audit & Compliance Report – Internal/external audit results and closure status
- Material Traceability & Documentation Report – MTC compliance, traceability, Data Book status
- Supplier Quality Report – Supplier performance and incoming quality trends
- Customer Quality Report – Complaints, feedback, and resolution status
- Continuous Improvement Report – Quality improvement initiatives and measurable impact
- Welding Quality Oversight Report – High-level summary of welding quality performance (based on data from Welding Engineer), including defects, repair rates, and compliance status
9. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- First Pass Yield (FPY)
- NCR closure rate and turnaround time
- Audit findings and closure effectiveness
- Defect/rework rates
- Documentation and Data Book accuracy
- Customer complaint resolution time
- Compliance to ISO 9001 / ISO 3834 / ASME requirements
10. Safety
- Comply with Necsa's health and safety requirements
- BBS observations and safety incidents.
- Promote a Nuclear Safety Culture within NECSA group
- Contribute to improvement or streamlined world class safety systems
Key Knowledge & Skills:

- Knowledge of materials, fabrication processes, quoting and legal implications

Minimum Qualifications:
- BSc/BTech/BEng Degree in Metallurgical or Mechanical Engineering
- General computer literate to at least intermediate level (Windows, MS Project, MS Word and Excel)
Minimum Experience
- Minimum 5 years in Quality Engineering operations
- Experience in mechanical Fabrication Ability to develop QCP’s, understanding the manufacturing codes and quality management systems. Must be able to communicate well internally and with customers and be highly organized and able to plan for him/herself.
- Ensuring processes adhere to quality standards
- Preparing reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing data
- Working in accordance with deadlines for delivery of products
