About the Role

Booksite (Pty) Ltd is looking for an experienced and hands-on Picking Supervisor to join our warehouse team in Bellville, Cape Town.

The Picking Supervisor will be responsible for supervising and coordinating the daily activities of the picking team, ensuring that customer orders are picked accurately, efficiently and within the required timeframes.

The successful candidate will play an important role in managing team performance, maintaining picking accuracy and productivity, ensuring stock control, and supporting a safe and efficient warehouse operation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the picking team.
  • Allocate picking duties and workloads according to operational requirements and priorities.
  • Ensure customer orders are picked accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Monitor daily and weekly picking productivity and performance targets.
  • Maintain high levels of picking accuracy and minimise errors, shortages and incorrect stock movements.
  • Ensure the correct products, quantities, titles and product codes are picked according to customer orders.
  • Monitor workflow and address delays, bottlenecks and operational challenges.
  • Conduct team briefings and communicate daily priorities and targets.
  • Supervise, motivate, coach and support picking employees.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality and employee performance.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, warehouse procedures and the Code of Conduct.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements and appropriate PPE usage.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within the picking area.
  • Ensure scanners, picking equipment and warehouse systems are used correctly.
  • Report stock discrepancies, damages, shortages and picking errors.
  • Assist with stock counts, cycle counts and stock audits.
  • Coordinate with Receiving, Replenishment, Packing and Dispatch to ensure smooth workflow.
  • Investigate recurring picking errors and implement corrective action.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to picking processes, productivity and stock accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate picking and productivity records and provide reports to management.
  • Assist with employee performance management and disciplinary processes where required.
  • Assist with picking activities when operational requirements require additional support.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • 2–5 years’ experience in a warehouse, picking or distribution environment.
  • 1–2 years’ supervisory or team leader experience, preferably in a warehouse environment.
  • Experience in high-volume picking, order fulfilment or distribution operations.
  • Experience using Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), barcode scanners or warehouse systems.
  • Strong leadership and people-management skills.
  • Strong organisational and planning abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage productivity and performance targets.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Computer literacy, particularly MS Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Good understanding of warehouse health and safety practices.
  • Strong stock control and inventory awareness.

Advantageous

  • Certificate or qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Warehousing or a related field.
  • Supervisory or management training.
  • Valid forklift licence or certification.

Additional Requirements

  • Good physical fitness and health suitable for warehouse work.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work overtime when operationally required.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours during peak operational periods.
  • Commitment to Booksite's health and safety requirements and procedures.
