Job description
The LSEN Assistant Teacher will be responsible for providing inclusive, learner-centered education to students with diverse learning needs. The role requires a compassionate, adaptable educator who can design and implement individualized support strategies while maintaining compliance with educational regulations and school policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Curriculum Delivery
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lessons tailored to learners with special educational needs.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate varying abilities, learning styles, and developmental stages.
- Integrate remedial and enrichment activities to support holistic learner growth.
- Learner Support
- Conduct baseline and ongoing assessments to identify learner strengths and areas of need.
- Develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) in collaboration with parents, therapists, and support staff.
- Provide emotional, social, and behavioral support to foster a safe and nurturing classroom environment.
- Collaboration & Communication
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams (psychologists, therapists, remedial specialists).
- Maintain open, empathetic communication with parents and guardians regarding learner progress.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development sessions.
- Administration & Compliance
- Keep accurate records of learner progress, interventions, and reports.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, child protection guidelines, and educational regulations.
- Contribute to moderation, assessment plans, and regulatory submissions.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Education (specialization in Inclusive/Special Needs Education preferred).
- Registration with SACE (South African Council for Educators).
- Additional qualification in Special Needs Education, Remedial Education, or Psychology is advantageous.
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience teaching learners with special educational needs.
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching strategies to meet diverse learner needs.
