Mitchell's Plain Transitional Care Facility is situated on the Lentegeur Psychiatric Hospital premises in Lentegeur, Mitchell's Plain. The facility has 148 beds, responsible for the rehabilitation of patients, wound care, palliative and convalescent care.

AHC is inviting you to apply for a vacant position which will be on a full time FIXED term contract, and only renewable depending on continued funding from the Department of Health.

Job Purpose:

To assist the Professional Nurse with the management of a nursing services in a ward with respect to care rendered to patients to ensure quality nursing care:

• Delivery of a holistic cost-effective Nursing Care service to patients and families
• Management of the ward under the direct or indirect supervision of the Professional Nurse
• Education to staff, students, patients and families
• Render a quality service.

Key Requirements:

• Registration with the South African Nursing Council as an Enrolled Nurse
• 2 years’ experience as an Enrolled Nurse

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical

• Provide quality nursing care to patients
• Medication management
• Assess carers capabilities to deliver a Holistic Nursing Care Service
• Work as a member of a team and contribute positively to the team
• Supervise ward activities of patients and carers

Administrative

• Follow departmental policies and procedures
• All records are correctly completed

Training

• Provide in-service training to carers
• Demonstrate procedures when required
• Provide guidance to carers
• Attend in-service training sessions

Additional Tasks

• In addition to the above tasks, the Enrolled nurse needs to perform any other task(s) not mentioned above according the Scope of Practice.

Patients

• Liaise with patients, families and other members of the team in order to optimize patient outcomes
• Provide comprehensive and holistic care to all patients

Team Members

• To function as part of a team. To communicate openly and clearly with all team members

Ward Staff

• Supervise nursing staff appropriately
• Provide on the spot teaching on pertinent subjects

Students

• To guide students in the management and treatment of patients

Key Attributes:

• Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
• Able to work under pressure in a hospital environment.
• Excellent time management
