TEMPORARY LEGAL ASSISTANT (FIXED-TERM CONTRACT)
Contract Period: September 2026 – November 2026

We are seeking a motivated, proactive, and results-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team on a temporary fixed-term contract.
Purpose of the Position
The Temporary Legal Assistant will provide comprehensive legal, operational, administrative, and business development support to the consultancy, contributing to the efficient delivery of legal services and the achievement of the firm's strategic objectives.
The successful candidate will support the firm's legal practice by coordinating client onboarding processes, ensuring compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, conducting legal research, drafting legal opinions, correspondence, reports, and other legal documents, and coordinating client matters from inception to completion.
The incumbent will also play a key role in maintaining strong client relationships, engaging with stakeholders, supporting project implementation, preparing client progress reports and presentations, identifying new business opportunities, coordinating procurement and tender submissions, and preparing applications for panel appointments, registrations, accreditations, supplier databases, and other institutional opportunities on behalf of the firm.
This position requires a highly organised, self-motivated professional who is capable of managing multiple assignments, exercising sound legal judgement, maintaining strict confidentiality, and delivering exceptional client service.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
Legal Services
- Conduct legal research on legislation, case law, policies, and regulatory developments.
- Draft legal opinions, memoranda, correspondence, reports, contracts, and other legal documents.
- Assist with reviewing legal documentation for compliance and legal risk.
- Maintain accurate legal records and case files.
Client Onboarding and Compliance
- Coordinate end-to-end client onboarding processes.
- Conduct client due diligence and compliance checks.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
- Maintain accurate client records and documentation.
Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain professional relationships with clients.
- Serve as a liaison between clients and the consultancy.
- Coordinate client meetings and respond to client enquiries.
- Promote exceptional client service and ensure timely communication.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise with government departments, municipalities, regulatory authorities, state-owned entities, private organisations, and other stakeholders.
- Coordinate meetings, consultations, and stakeholder engagements.
- Prepare meeting agendas, briefing notes, minutes, and follow-up action plans.
Business Development and Procurement
- Identify new business and legal advisory opportunities.
- Monitor procurement portals, tender bulletins, Requests for Quotations (RFQs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and Expressions of Interest (EOIs).
- Coordinate and prepare tender submissions, proposals, capability statements, and supporting documentation.
- Assist with market research and business development initiatives.
- Maintain a register of procurement opportunities and submission deadlines.
Applications and Institutional Registrations
- Prepare and submit applications on behalf of the firm to government departments, municipalities, regulatory bodies, public entities, and private institutions.
- Coordinate supplier database registrations, panel appointment applications, accreditation processes, compliance submissions, and other institutional applications.
- Monitor application outcomes and follow up where necessary.
Reporting and Project Support
- Prepare client progress reports and management reports.
- Monitor project deliverables, milestones, and deadlines.
- Draft project updates, briefing notes, and implementation reports.
- Assist in coordinating client assignments and consultancy projects.
Presentations and Communications
- Develop professional presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Prepare workshop materials, client presentations, and stakeholder communication documents.
- Support client outreach and marketing initiatives where required.
Administrative Support
- Maintain electronic and physical filing systems.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper record management.
- Coordinate travel and meeting logistics where required.
- Perform any other duties reasonably assigned by management.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree.
- Demonstrable knowledge of South African legal systems, legal procedures, and legal administration.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Excellent legal research, drafting, analytical, and report-writing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Valid South African driver's licence.
- Own reliable transport.
- Own laptop suitable for professional use.
- Willingness and ability to travel within and outside the province when operationally required.
Failure to meet any of the above minimum requirements will result in automatic disqualification.
Required Supporting Documents

- LLB qualification.
- South African Identity Document or valid passport (where applicable).
- Certified copy of a valid driver's licence.
- Three (3) recent reference letters dated between 2022 and 2026 attesting to the applicant's work performance, competence, and professional conduct.
