Job description

DESCRIPTION

Amazon strives to be Earth's most customer-centric company, where customers can find and discover virtually anything they want to buy online. By giving customers more of what they want - low prices, vast selection, and convenience - Amazon will achieve its vision of being South Africa's most loved store.

We are looking for a hands-on operations professional to join our Last Mile Operations team. Based in one of our delivery stations, you'll be at the heart of the customer experience, ensuring packages move efficiently from fulfillment centers to customers doorsteps. You'll support both under-the-roof and on-the-road to ensure operational excellence and drive continuous improvement.

This is not "keep the lights on" position, it's a "build the machine" role. You'll have outsized impact, the chance to learn how a world-class operations engine runs, and the opportunity to shape the future of last mile e-commerce delivery in South Africa, requiring invention, grit, and local ingenuity.

Key job responsibilities

You'll be based in our delivery stations, working with our delivery partners across both under the roof (UTR) and on the road (OTR) operations to ensure packages move seamlessly from dock to doorstep.

On any given day, you'll manage inbound package flow, drive sortation accuracy, and coordinate staging for dispatch. You'll help to plan and adjust labour deployment against volume forecasts, resolve bottlenecks in real time, and uphold safety and quality standards across the floor. Once packages leave the building, you'll track and action metrics including delivery success rate, concessions, and on-time performance.

You'll be expected to:

  • Own daily stand-ups and operational reporting
  • Partner with transportation planning teams on capacity and demand alignment
  • Contribute to peak readiness, contingency planning, and new process launches

This is a role where you'll context-switch often, move between the floor and a laptop, and balance immediate firefighting with longer-term process improvement.

The role operates to the rhythm of the delivery station. There will be times where you'll need to adjust your working schedule to match operational priorities, in particular during launch and peak periods when our customers need us most.
