Job description
Job Purpose
The Department of the Premier, Western Cape Government has an opportunity for a competent individual to handle all misconduct, disputes, and grievances matters within the sphere of employee relations.
Minimum Requirements
An appropriate 3-year National Diploma/B-Degree (equivalent or higher qualification) in Labour Relations, Human Resource Management or Law; A minimum of 1-year experience within employee relations; A valid (Code B or higher) driving licence.

Key Performance Areas
Handle misconduct matters; Handle grievances matters; Handle disputes; Render advice on misconduct and grievance matters; Implement measures in order prevent labour unrest; Render a support service; Conduct investigations (misconduct, grievances and disputes); Draft submissions for mandates; Represent the employer in dispute (conciliation and arbitration) matters and disciplinary hearings.
Competencies
Knowledge of the following: Public Service Act, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations, Human Resource Management and Conflict Management; Appropriate labour legislation; Relevant discipline, grievance and dispute procedures.
Skills needed: Proven computer literacy in MS Office Package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc); Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Written and verbal communication skills.
Remuneration
R 413 001- R 486 501 per annum (Salary Level 8)
Note on remuneration in addition service benefits or obligations for qualifying employees (medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc) are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
Notes
Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend interviews on a date and time determined by the department and submit documentation for verification purposes and criminal record vetting. All shortlisted candidates, shall undertake two pre-entry assessments. One will be a practical exercise to determine a candidate’s suitability based on the post’s technical and generic requirements and the other must be an integrity (ethical conduct) assessment. The selection process will be guided by the EE targets of the employing department.
