Laboratory Analyst - Leaf Laboratory

An opportunity exists for a Laboratory Analyst to join the team at our Bemlab agricultural and leaf testing laboratory in Strand, Cape Town. We are seeking an individual with a proven track record of displaying technical competence in Chemistry and who has a high level of ethics and integrity while consistently aligning with the PathCare values.

The successful candidate will be responsible for routinely testing leaf samples. Duties include daily analysis of samples, preparation of calibration and control solutions, evaluation and export of results into a LIMS system, maintaining a clean work environment, and ensuring all tasks are performed in compliance with ISO 17025 requirements.

Key Competency Requirements and Experience

· National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry/BTech Chemistry/BSc Analytical Chemistry/ or any other related field

· Minimum 2 years of experience in a high throughput commercial laboratory environment

· Experience with laboratory accreditation processes (ISO17025)

· Intermediate computer literacy (Microsoft Office; MS Word, Excel)

· Client-focused with excellent attention to detail

· Effective communication and interpersonal skills

· Display initiative

· Problem-solving ability

· Result-orientated

· Adaptability

· Ability to work under pressure and display resilience and tenacity in challenging situations

· Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

• Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) precisely
• Must be fluent in English with an understanding of Afrikaans

· Overtime and weekend work may also be required as per work schedule and requirements and therefore the individual will require his/her own reliable transport

• Must have an acceptable track record/performance record with regard to the technical and behavioural competencies required to perform in this position

Key Responsibilities

· Perform daily analysis as scheduled and ensure timeous completion of daily work.

· Preparation of calibration standards and QC solutions.

· Instrument/Equipment maintenance.

· Evaluation and Exporting of results.

· Repeat-sample analysis.

· QC data to be timeously plotted and action taken when rules are breached.

· Data capturing (Raw data on forms as well as in LIMS).

· Laboratory Housekeeping.

· Comply with customer focus requirements.

· Accountability to clients and all members of Bemlab/PathCare.

· Display respect & ethical behaviour.
