Job description
The Role
A Benoni-based organisation is seeking a Junior Accountant to support their finance team.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Accountant to manage the full accounting function from cashbook through to management accounts. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, and overseeing the day-to-day finance function, including management of the Debtors Controller, and meeting monthly deadlines.

Skills and Experience
Requirements
- BCom Degree in Accounting (essential)
- Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience in a full-function role
- Proven experience preparing management accounts
- Hands on experience working on accounting systems (e.g. Sage X3, Pastel Evolution, Xero or similar)
- Strong Advanced Excel skills
- Own reliable vehicle (essential)

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full accounting function from cashbook through to management accounts
- Process and maintain general ledger and journal entries
- Perform bank, debtor, creditor, and general ledger reconciliations
- Prepare and maintain accurate trial balances
- Prepare monthly management accounts and financial reports by no later than the 10th of each.
- Manage and oversee the Debtors Controller, including reviewing age analysis and collections.
- Prepare and submit VAT201, EMP201 and EMP501 returns and ensure SARS compliance at all times.
- Handle tax-related matters, including provisional tax and supporting schedules, audits and verifications from SARS.
- Responsible for the month-end and year-end closing processes
- Monitor cash flow and assist with forecasting
- Support the external audit processes and provide required documentation as requested from the auditors, review the annual financial statements in line with IFRS for SMME’s.
- Maintain compliance with accounting standards and internal controls
- Prepare the budgets and financial planning where required
- Manage fixed asset register and depreciation schedules
- Process and review payroll-related accounting entries
- Support the finance function with ad hoc tasks
