Role Overview

Our client is a leading South African retail group seeking an experienced IT Manager to take full ownership of IT infrastructure across head office, retail stores, distribution centres, and wholesale operations.

This is a strategic, business-facing role focused on managing third-party IT vendors, driving infrastructure improvements, strengthening cybersecurity, and leading technology projects that support business growth. The successful candidate will serve as the internal IT leader — ensuring vendors deliver effectively while shaping the organisation's long-term IT strategy.

Key Responsibilities

IT Strategy & Infrastructure

• Develop and drive the organisation's IT infrastructure strategy.
• Assess and improve the current IT environment across retail stores, distribution centres, and head office.
• Identify opportunities to modernise infrastructure through cloud technologies and improved governance.
• Build and maintain a roadmap of IT projects and continuous improvements.

Vendor & Project Management

• Manage relationships with third-party IT vendors and service providers.
• Hold vendors accountable for service delivery, security, and project execution.
• Lead infrastructure and technology projects from planning through implementation.
• Coordinate change management activities across multiple vendors.

Operations & Support

• Work closely with internal support teams to improve service delivery.
• Reduce recurring technical issues across retail stores.
• Improve IT monitoring and incident management processes.
• Ensure infrastructure remains secure, reliable, and scalable.

Security & Governance

• Strengthen cybersecurity, governance, and infrastructure resilience.
• Improve access management processes, including Active Directory integration.
• Review VPN and third-party access controls.
• Ensure IT systems align with business and security requirements.

Financial & Business Management

• Evaluate project costs and return on investment.
• Make commercially sound technology recommendations.
• Assist in budgeting and planning future IT investments.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Information Systems.

Experience & Knowledge

• Approximately 5 years' experience within IT infrastructure, networking, or systems environments.
• Demonstrated experience managing third-party IT vendors.
• Strong understanding of networking, infrastructure, cloud technologies, and IT governance.
• Exposure to software environments.
• IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, ITIL Foundation, Microsoft, or Cisco (CCNA) will be advantageous.
