Job description
Responsible for conducting, monitoring, and reporting on Health and Safety (H&S) activities within work executed on Mzimvubu construction sites under the responsibility of Mzimvubu Project Management Office (PMO) within the Project Management and Implementation Division (PMID).
1. Enforces Health and Safety (H&S) Policies and Standards.
Implements the documented H&S Policies, Standards and processes.
Institutionalise through communication new or revised H&S Policies, Standards and processes.
Compels all employees to follow H&S Policies, Standards and processes.
2. Conducts H&S audits and inspections of the contractor.
Conducts routine audits and inspections of the contractor.
Develop and circulate the audit and inspection report.
Accompany CHS Agent to conduct construction site safety audits.
Conducts contractor’s site safety inspection.
Preparation of daily report and consolidate into weekly for circulation to internal stakeholders.
3. Ensure Compliance OHS Act
Oversee the administration of compliance with OHS Act:
Ensures Notification of reportable accidents to department.
Ensures mandatory appointments are made by construction contractors.
Ensure all necessary permits systems to perform various H&S sensitive work are applied for.
Oversee the Risk Assessment process for all hazardous work activities
Ensure use of relevant necessary safety Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Monitor the compilation of safety statistics for accurate stakeholder reporting.
Ensure entry, annual and exit medicals are performed on site staff.
4. Support Employee Trainings.
Promote H&S awareness amongst staff.
Monitor the contractor conducting H&S inductions of contractors, staff and visitors’ on-site rules.
Ensure the preparation and generation of H&S material and publicise through all available media including posting around sites and workplaces.
5. Investigate Accidents.
Conducts investigation of accidents and incidents on site.
Performs root cause analysis of accidents and incidents.
Generate and circulate reports to relevant parties, including departments when necessary.
Communicate the findings and lessons learned to staff.
6. Participation in TCTA activities outside projects.
Engagement in duties requiring PMID based and other acquired expertise in other functions outside projects.
National Diploma NQF Level 6 in Health & Safety, Safety Management or Construction Health & Safety or related
Minimum 5 years of work experience in Health & Safety.
REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS: CHSO (SACPCMP) Required, SAMTRAC, Professional Registration-added advantage
Experience in construction safety, with specific competence in high-risk civil engineering activities associated with dam wall construction/water sector projects.
