Tsebo Facilities Solutions is looking for Handyman (Multi-Skilled) that will be responsible for carrying out general building maintenance, inspections, planned preventative maintenance, and repairs to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and well maintained. The role requires practical maintenance experience, including a basic understanding of electrical and HVAC (air-conditioning) systems, to identify common faults and escalate specialist work where required.

Duties & Responsibilities

General Maintenance

  • Perform routine repairs and maintenance throughout the facility.
  • Carry out minor plumbing, carpentry, painting, and building repairs.
  • Repair furniture, fittings, and fixtures where required.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and breakdowns within agreed timeframes.
  • Ensure work areas are left clean, safe, and tidy after repairs.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workshop areas in good working order.

Electrical and HVAC Support

  • Conduct basic inspections of lighting, plugs, switches, and electrical equipment.
  • Identify and report electrical faults requiring qualified electricians.
  • Perform basic checks on HVAC and air-conditioning systems.
  • Identify operational issues such as:
    • Poor airflow
    • Incorrect temperatures
    • Water leaks
    • Unusual noises
    • Equipment not functioning
  • Provide support to contractors during maintenance activities.
  • Follow up on reported faults until resolved.

Planned and Preventative Maintenance

  • Complete scheduled maintenance activities and inspections.
  • Conduct routine building inspections.
  • Identify maintenance requirements proactively.
  • Address minor issues before they escalate.
  • Escalate major defects and technical issues appropriately.
  • Monitor and report leaks, wear and tear, and potential equipment failures.

Work Order Management

  • Attend to allocated work orders within required timelines.
  • Update job records accurately.
  • Record additional work requirements and outstanding actions.
  • Escalate contractor requirements where applicable.
  • Provide feedback on outstanding jobs and progress.

Contractor Coordination

  • Escort and monitor contractors on site where required.
  • Facilitate access to work areas.
  • Support compliance with site safety requirements.
  • Verify completed work before contractor departure.
  • Report incomplete or substandard work.
  • Ensure contractors leave work areas clean and safe.

Health, Safety, Environment and Quality (SHEQ)

  • Follow all SHEQ policies, procedures, and site requirements.
  • Use correct tools and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Identify and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Work only within authorised competencies and qualifications.
  • Escalate specialist maintenance work appropriately.

Customer Service

  • Deliver professional and responsive service to clients and building occupants.
  • Respond to maintenance requests promptly.
  • Keep stakeholders informed of progress.
  • Minimise disruption during maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and conduct.

Reporting and Administration

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Complete inspection checklists and documentation.
  • Report recurring maintenance issues.
  • Provide information for weekly and monthly reports when requested.

Skills and Competencies

  • General building maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Basic working knowledge of electrical systems.
  • Basic working knowledge of HVAC / air-conditioning systems.
  • Ability to identify faults and determine when specialist assistance is required.
  • Plumbing, carpentry, painting, and general property repair skills.
  • Safe use of hand tools and power tools.
  • Maintenance inspection techniques.
  • Health and Safety (SHEQ) awareness.
  • Work order management and maintenance reporting.
  • Customer service and communication skills.
  • Time management and task prioritisation.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Matric / Grade 12.
  • General maintenance or technical training advantageous.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance and building services.
  • NQF Level 4 Technical Qualification advantageous.

Experience

  • Minimum 2-5 years' experience as a Handyman or in a similar maintenance role.
  • Experience within a commercial, corporate, property management, or facilities management environment advantageous.
  • Practical experience in:
    • General building maintenance
    • Basic electrical maintenance
    • HVAC / air-conditioning systems
    • Plumbing repairs
    • Carpentry work
    • Painting and general building repairs
