Job description
Position: Generator Technician
Location: Port Elizabeth
Requirements:
- Grade 12
- Trade Tested Electrician
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in generator mechanics or industrial electrical systems
- Strong understanding of diesel engine mechanics and AC/DC electrical theory
- Familiarity with controllers such as Deep-Sea Electronics (DSE), ComAp, or Lovato
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety protocols regarding high-voltage equipment and fuel handling
- Valid Code EB (or higher) license is essential for site visits
- Availability for an on-call rotation to handle after-hours emergency repairs
- Candidates must reside in the Port Elizabeth / Uitenhage area
Responsibilities:
- Perform routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, filter replacements, cooling system flushes) on diesel and petrol generators
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical faults, including engine controllers, AVRs (Automatic Voltage Regulators), and fuel systems
- Conduct minor engine overhauls and component replacements
- Assist in the positioning, wiring, and commissioning of new power units and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS)
- Perform load bank testing to ensure systems operate within specified parameters under stress
- Maintain accurate digital logs of service history, parts used, and site conditions
