Company Overview

We are a Fresh Produce wholesale business operating from our high-volume cold storage depot in Epping 1, Cape Town. Supporting a dedicated team of around 30 permanent employees, our environment is fast-paced, highly dynamic, and requires sharp operational efficiency to manage a rapid, multi-layered supply chain.

Role Summary

This is a comprehensive, hands-on role offering exposure across our entire finance function. Reporting directly to the business owner, you will take full ownership of our 30-person financial operation, contributing directly to daily operational performance, financial controls, and business growth.

We are seeking an autonomous, tech-forward professional who can manage this standalone department independently. The ideal candidate will possess a brilliant understanding of workflows and advanced systems to simplify tasks, bridge gaps between our operational departments, and drive efficiencies in a busy workplace with many moving parts.

Key Responsibilities

· Full-Function Standalone Accounting: Oversee the end-to-end accounting cycle, processing journals, accruals, provisions, and meticulous balance sheet reconciliations.

· Management Accounts & Reporting: Prepare and compile comprehensive monthly management accounts to be presented directly to the business owner, bank managers, and key stakeholders.

· Cash Management & Receivables: Conduct daily bank reconciliations and cashbook processing, monitor cash flow, and ensure accurate tracking and allocation of payments received from wholesale customers.

· Treasury & Creditors Control: Manage full-cycle accounts payable, coordinating daily, weekly, and monthly disbursements to suppliers and service providers while maintaining strong financial controls.

· Payroll & Statutory Compliance: Oversee the complete payroll function for our 30 permanent staff members, ensuring precise payroll accounting and timeous statutory submissions (including EMP201s, VAT, and SARS compliance).

· Budgeting & Forecasting: Assist the owner with budgeting, forecasting, cost variance analysis, and operational CAPEX reporting.

· Operational & Stock Control: Monitor inventory costing, cost of sales, and stock variances unique to a fast-moving cold storage distribution environment.

· Audit & Risk Readiness: Maintain pristine financial records, internal controls, and documentation to prepare financial information seamlessly for internal and external review.

· Process Optimization: Actively leverage modern tech, advanced spreadsheets, and AI tools to automate manual workflows and simplify the finance workspace.

Qualifications & Experience

· Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.

· Professional Track: Completed SAIPA or SAICA articles, or actively working toward a professional accounting designation is highly advantageous.

· Experience: 3 to 5 years of full-function experience as a Financial Accountant, strictly within a manufacturing, FMCG, warehousing, or product-based/logistics environment.

· Systems & Excel Brilliance: Exceptional, advanced MS Excel spreadsheet skills and strong knowledge of ERP systems.

· Tech-Forward Mindset: Proven potential and enthusiasm to utilize modern tech and AI tools to optimize business workflows and analyze operational data.

· Autonomy: A proven history of running a finance function independently for a similar-sized workforce without needing daily supervision.

· Attributes: A hands-on, resilient problem solver who thrives under pressure in a bustling commercial environment.
