Position Overview
The Field Trainer / Project Coordinator will play a key role in correcting, restoring, and enhancing the teaching and learning of Mathematics and Physical Sciences across GIBELA project which is based in Gauteng (Soshanguve). The successful candidate will work directly with teachers, schools, and project teams to implement STEM interventions, build teacher capacity, and improve learner performance.
Travel to project schools and education partners forms an essential component of this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide training and Professional Development to Maths and Physical Sciences teachers.
- Implement the Maths Centre STEM development programmes across project schools.
- Monitor and support the quality of teaching and learning in STEM subjects.
- Conduct classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
- Coordinate and manage STEM/STEAM/STREAM project activities and interventions.
- Facilitate workshops, coaching sessions, and professional learning communities.
- Collect, analyse, and report on teaching and learner performance data.
- Support schools in addressing gaps and misconceptions in Maths and Physical Sciences.
- Ensure the implementation of quality assurance processes aligned with Maths Centre standards.
Training and Professional Development
Regular training will be provided to develop competencies required for the position. The CEO provides professional guidance and support, and performance will be evaluated based on demonstrable value-add in project outcomes.
Performance Review: The position is reviewed annually in consultation with the Unit Manager, considering:
- Status of project funding
- Achievement of performance indicators
- Programme outcomes and impact
Performance appraisals occur twice a year (June and December) and contribute to salary progression and professional development opportunities.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate should have:
- A relevant qualification in STEM (Mathematics, Physical Sciences)
- Experience as an educator or trainer in Mathematics and/or Physical Sciences.
- Strong leadership and personnel management skills.
- A commitment to high work ethics, quality assurance, and professional standards.
- Excellent facilitation, mentoring, and capacity-building abilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a results-driven approach.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a high-performing team.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to project schools.
- Valid South African driver's licence.
- Own reliable vehicle.
- SACE registration (required).
- Computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Teams, Excel).
