About the Role
A well-established company based in Middelburg is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Electrical & Hydraulic Draughtsman to join their engineering team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing accurate electrical and hydraulic schematics, layouts and detailed technical drawings for underground mining equipment. The role will involve working closely with design engineers, electricians, hydraulic specialists and production teams to ensure designs are practical, safe, compliant and suitable for manufacture.
Key Responsibilities
Produce detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control panel layouts.
Develop hydraulic circuit diagrams, piping layouts and component integration drawings.
Generate accurate 2D and, where applicable, 3D CAD drawings for systems and assemblies.
Interpret design specifications, site measurements and engineering requirements.
Ensure drawings comply with relevant engineering standards and industry practices.
Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) for electrical and hydraulic systems.
Manage drawing revisions and maintain accurate document control.
Collaborate with engineers, workshop personnel and suppliers to resolve design and technical issues.
Support troubleshooting, modifications and continuous improvement of existing equipment.
Ensure designs are practical, safe, cost-effective and manufacturable.
Work effectively under pressure while meeting project deadlines.
Requirements
Draughting Certificate or Diploma, preferably in Electrical or Mechanical Draughting.
N4–N6 Electrical/Mechanical qualification or equivalent.
Minimum 3–5 years' experience in electrical and/or hydraulic draughting.
Experience within mining equipment, underground mining or heavy engineering will be highly advantageous.
Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential.
Experience with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software will be advantageous.
Strong understanding of electrical systems, including:
Control panels
Wiring
Instrumentation
Electrical schematics
Strong understanding of hydraulic systems, including:
Hydraulic circuits
Valves
Pumps
Actuators
Hydraulic piping and component integration
Ability to read, interpret and produce detailed technical drawings and schematics.
Knowledge of relevant electrical and hydraulic standards and symbols.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently as well as within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
