Job description
Afrirent Auto is looking for a Diesel Technician to diagnose, service and repair diesel powered vehicles and machines such as trucks and trailers in Afrirent’s Auto fleet. This involves the provision of high-quality maintenance of vehicles to minimise downtime and / or reduce accident risks thereby enabling Afrirent to fulfil its contractual obligations to its clients and meet stakeholder expectations.
EDUCATION:
- N3 National Certificate (NQF Level 4) Diesel Mechanic / Artisan / Trade Test
LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Code 14 Driver’s Licence
- Professional Driving Permit (PDP)
- Own toolbox and relevant tools
EXPERIENCE:
- 5 years’ experience as a diesel mechanic / technician
- Previous experience in electrical work and fault finding
- Previous experience in UD290 / 440 / Quan series, Mercedes Axor and Actros
- Experience in and ability to attend to breakdowns
- Experience in removing gearboxes and clutches
- Experience in conducting brake overhauls
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Conducts fault finding and investigations to diagnose repairs and maintenance requirements on trucks and trailers
- Analyses causes of faults, requests quotes and submits for pre-approval
- Services and repairs UD290/440, Quan series, Mercedes Actros and Axor trucks and trailers accurately and with the highest levels of quality
- Replaces vehicles’ engines, transmissions, steering mechanisms and braking systems
- Test drives repaired vehicles to ensure that the repairs were effectively and correctly carried out
- Responds to breakdowns and emergencies and carries out onsite repairs when necessary
- Adheres to breakdown safety protocols
- Implements safety standard operating procedures at all times to minimise the risk of further incidents / accidents
- Attends to certificate of fitness (COF) defects on vehicles
- Conducts brake tests on completion of all brake overhauls
- Performs preventative maintenance on service trucks
- Conducts strict inspection checklist procedures and maintains accurate paperwork and documentation
- Completes and submits job cards for all work conducted
- Identifies and makes proactive recommendations for preventative maintenance of vehicles to prevent major breakdowns of vehicles
- Maintains optimum stock levels of parts, tools and equipment
- Escalates complex / unresolved repairs to the Workshop Foreman
Pay: From R21 820,00 per month
