Introduction
The Data Migration & Oracle Application Specialist is responsible for planning, managing, and executing complex data migration, data archiving, and Oracle database initiatives within the ITS ERP environment. The role focuses on ensuring data integrity, security, operational continuity, and successful knowledge transfer while supporting enterprise-scale Oracle applications.
Job description
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse Oracle databases, schemas, storage, and data dependencies.
- Plan and execute end-to-end data migration projects, including data extraction, transformation, loading (ETL), validation, reconciliation, cutover, and rollback.
- Develop and optimise Oracle SQL and PL/SQL scripts, packages, procedures, and migration utilities.
- Design and implement secure data archiving and information lifecycle management solutions.
- Ensure data quality through reconciliation, validation, governance, and compliance with POPIA and change management processes.
- Provide specialist Oracle database and ITS ERP application support across Student, Finance, HR, Payroll, and related modules.
- Produce technical documentation, migration playbooks, and standards while mentoring team members and transferring critical knowledge.
Minimum requirements
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field (or relevant diploma with significant experience).
- Minimum 8 years' experience with Oracle-based enterprise applications.
- At least 5 years' experience in enterprise data migration, database support, conversion, or archiving.
- Extensive experience with Oracle SQL and PL/SQL in high-volume production environments.
- Experience planning and executing enterprise data migration projects.
- Experience analysing Oracle storage, schemas, and data growth.
- Experience with ITS ERP, ITS Integrator, HR/Payroll, Student, or Finance systems is advantageous.
- Oracle certifications are beneficial.
Technical Skills Required
- Expert Oracle SQL and PL/SQL development.
- Strong understanding of Oracle databases, schemas, tablespaces, indexes, constraints, users, roles, and database administration concepts.
- Enterprise data migration, ETL/ELT, data cleansing, transformation, reconciliation, and batch processing.
- Data archiving, backup, recovery, and information lifecycle management.
- Unix/Linux command-line and scripting.
- Experience with reporting and integration technologies such as Jaspersoft, REST services, and ORDS.
- Knowledge of relational databases, CI/CD, source control, testing, and release management.
