Job description

Commercial Finance Manager (Telco/ICT)

Salary: Market related (Negotiable)

Area: Bryanston, Johannesburg

Type: Onsite

The Role

This one's for a finance person who likes their numbers with a bit of grit in them. You won't be closing books in isolation here. You'll be the person who asks the awkward questions about disputed vendor balances, chases down where the money actually went, and makes sure the balance sheet tells the truth.

Our client is a major player in the ICT and telecommunications space, running a large and complex network of carrier and supplier relationships. It's high volume, low margin, and full of moving parts, which means the finance function needs someone who can bring order to it, not just report on it.

You'll sit between Commercial Finance, Operations, Legal and Carrier Management, providing the independent challenge that keeps disputes honest, provisioning accurate, and audits painless.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Owning the financial governance around Telco Credits and carrier related balance sheet exposures
  • Driving monthly reconciliation and substantiation of disputed vendor balances
  • Building and maintaining proper controls around how disputes get recognised, aged, escalated and provisioned
  • Supporting the quarterly Expected Credit Loss assessment under IFRS 9
  • Leading financial oversight on key supplier disputes, tracking recoveries and validating disputed amounts
  • Working closely with Operations, Legal and suppliers to actually resolve disputes, not just log them
  • Reviewing and challenging journals and accounting treatment tied to vendor disputes
  • Preparing audit ready documentation and supporting internal and external audit processes
  • Analysing supplier spend, cost drivers and margin performance to support negotiations and renewals
  • Contributing to forecasting, budgeting and working capital planning for the CMS environment
  • Improving how disputes are tracked, reconciled and reported, including cleaning up the data behind it
  • Partnering with CMS leadership and presenting governance and recovery updates at senior forums

What You'll Need

  • A BCom in Accounting, Finance or Commerce (CA(SA) or CIMA is a strong advantage)
  • At least 5 years in Commercial Finance, Financial Control, Finance Business Partnering or Commercial Governance
  • Solid experience with reconciliations, financial governance and working capital management
  • Telecommunications, ICT or high volume service industry experience is a real plus
  • Comfort with supplier reconciliations and dispute management in a genuinely complex commercial environment
  • Exposure to revenue recognition and contract governance is useful but not essential
  • Strong Excel and financial modelling skills
  • The confidence to challenge constructively, and the communication skills to bring people along with you
  • An eye for detail that borders on stubborn, in a good way
