Cashier

We are looking for a reliable, responsible and customer-focused Liquor Store Cashier to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for handling customer transactions, operating the cash register, maintaining accurate cash records, assisting customers, and ensuring that the store remains clean, organised and professional at all times.

The ideal candidate must be trustworthy, punctual, hardworking and able to work responsibly in a busy retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Welcome and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
• Process cash, card and other approved payments accurately.
• Operate the POS/cash register system.
• Issue receipts and ensure all transactions are correctly recorded.
• Count and balance the cash drawer at the beginning and end of each shift.
• Report any cash shortages, discrepancies or suspicious transactions immediately.
• Verify customer identification where required before completing alcohol sales.
• Ensure that alcohol is not sold to underage customers or customers who are not legally permitted to purchase alcohol.
• Follow all company policies and South African liquor-sale regulations.
• Assist customers with product enquiries and provide good customer service.
• Check prices and ensure customers are charged correctly.
• Assist with stocking shelves and keeping products properly displayed.
• Keep the cashier area and store clean, neat and organised.
• Monitor stock and report damaged, missing or suspicious items.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding business and customer information.
• Perform any other reasonable duties required by management.

Requirements

• Previous cashier or retail experience will be an advantage.
• Experience in a liquor store or similar retail environment is an advantage.
• Must be able to operate a cash register/POS system.
• Good basic mathematics and cash-handling skills.
• Good communication and customer-service skills.
• Must be reliable, punctual and hardworking.
• Must be honest and trustworthy.
• Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Must be willing to work weekends, public holidays and shifts when required.
• Must have a professional attitude and appearance.
• Must be comfortable working in a busy environment.
• Applicants must meet the legal age requirements for employment and be legally permitted to work in South Africa.

Working Hours

The successful candidate must be flexible and available to work according to the store's roster, including weekends and public holidays where required.
