Business Development & Strategic Partnerships — Africa

My client in the ICT space is looking for a candidate to drive their growth across the African continent while continuing to grow the South African business. The ideal candidate must be able to identify, negotiate and activate partnerships (mobile network operators, regional distributors, and instalment-credit / microfinance providers) required to enter each new market and convert those partnerships directly into a sales pipeline, unit volume and recurring revenue. This role owns both partnership creation and commercial conversion as a single, accountable function.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

• Research and prioritise target markets across Africa including remaining, untapped opportunities within South Africa based on device-penetration gaps, MNO partner readiness, financing infrastructure, and trade/import conditions.
• Identify, approach, and build relationships with mobile network operators, regional device distributors, and instalment-credit or microfinance partners in each target market.
• Negotiate partnership terms including pricing, volume commitments, co-marketing support, and financing structures that convert into sellable offers.
• Draft and finalise partnership agreements in coordination with Legal/Compliance, ensuring terms are appropriate to each market's regulatory environment.

SALES AND REVENUE DELIVERY

• Build and manage the sales pipeline generated through each signed partnership, including MNO-bundled offers, distributor sell-through, and financed device plans.
• Own and report against quarterly unit volume and revenue targets for each active market.
• Lead pricing and commercial negotiations with channel partners and, where applicable, institutional or enterprise buyers such as schools, NGOs, and government device programmes.
• Resolve commercial and operational issues that block conversion of partnerships into paid volume.

MARKET ENTRY PLANNING & PLAYBOOK

• Develop and continuously refine a repeatable market-entry playbook covering partnership structuring, pricing, activation, and first-sale conversion.
• Track and report time-to-first-sale for each new market as a core measure of execution speed.
• Provide regular pipeline, partnership, and revenue reporting to the CEO and Executive Committee.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, or a related field; MBA advantageous.
• 7–12 years' experience spanning business development/sales and partnership or channel management, ideally in telecom, device/OEM, or fintech.
• Demonstrated experience negotiating and closing MNO, distributor, or channel partnerships within African markets.
• Track record of owning and delivering against a revenue or volume target, not only a relationship pipeline.
• Working knowledge of instalment-credit or mobile-money-linked financing models.
• Valid driver's licence and passport; willingness and ability to travel regionally on short notice.

Pay: R1,00 - R2,00 per hour
