Assistant Factory Manager
Purpose of the Role
We are seeking a highly organised, hands-on, and results-driven Assistant Factory Manager to support the Factory Manager in the effective management of daily production operations. The successful candidate will assist with ensuring that production targets, quality standards, health and safety requirements, and operational objectives are achieved efficiently and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Factory Manager with the overall management and coordination of daily factory operations.
- Monitor production activities to ensure production targets, quality standards, and deadlines are achieved.
- Assist with planning and coordinating production schedules in line with customer requirements and available resources.
- Monitor production performance and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure that production processes are followed correctly and efficiently.
- Supervise, guide, and support production staff to ensure optimal performance and productivity.
- Assist with managing staff attendance, overtime, performance, and discipline in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Monitor the availability and efficient utilisation of raw materials, packaging materials, equipment, and other production resources.
- Liaise with the Warehouse, Quality Control, Maintenance, and other departments to ensure smooth production operations.
- Assist with investigating and resolving production delays, breakdowns, quality issues, and other operational challenges.
- Ensure that all production records, reports, and documentation are completed accurately and on time.
- Monitor wastage, production variances, and operational losses and implement corrective action where required.
- Ensure compliance with company quality, food safety, health and safety, and operational procedures.
- Assist with implementing and maintaining housekeeping and hygiene standards throughout the factory.
- Assist with staff training, induction, and ongoing development of production employees.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving productivity, efficiency, quality, and cost control.
- Report production performance, operational issues, and other relevant matters to the Factory Manager.
- Step in for the Factory Manager when required and ensure continuity of factory operations.
- Perform any other reasonable duties as required by management.

Requirements
- Matric (Grade 12).
- Relevant qualification in Production Management, Operations Management, Manufacturing, or a related field will be advantageous.
- Minimum 3–5 years' experience in a production, manufacturing, or factory environment.
- Previous supervisory or management experience within a factory or production environment.
- Experience within the FMCG, food production, packing, or manufacturing environment would be advantageous.
- Proven experience managing production staff and monitoring production performance.
- Knowledge of production planning, quality control, health and safety, and operational procedures.
- Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
- Experience with production planning or ERP systems will be advantageous.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to work shifts, overtime, weekends, and public holidays when required.
