Actuarial Manager

Our client provides insurance-related and value-added products linked to the automotive/OEM environment — think extended warranties, tyre and rim cover, service plans, maintenance plans and other white-labelled products offered through OEMs and dealerships. They're looking for an Actuarial Manager to take technical ownership of pricing and product work, and to lead and mentor a small actuarial team.

There's currently no one signing off the team's actuarial work at manager level — this role exists to change that. You'll bring the technical credibility to review and approve pricing, guide junior and near-qualified actuaries, and work closely with the business on product structuring and profitability.

What you'll be doing

• Managing and technically guiding a team of actuarial analysts
• Reviewing and signing off actuarial work
• Supporting pricing for value-added insurance products
• Developing commercially sound product terms
• Working with OEM-related products and partnerships
• Assessing pricing assumptions, risk exposure and profitability
• Engaging with internal stakeholders and external partners
• Mentoring junior or near-qualified actuaries
• Translating actuarial analysis into practical business recommendations

What we're looking for

• Qualified actuary, or very close to qualification
• Short-term insurance background (this is a firm preference over life insurance)
• Solid pricing / product pricing experience
• Experience managing or mentoring actuarial analysts
• Comfortable reviewing and signing off the work of others
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills
• Commercial understanding of product profitability, risk and pricing assumptions

Relevant background

Short-term insurers, general insurance businesses, automotive insurance/warranty environments, bancassurance short-term teams, pricing or product actuarial teams, value-added product environments, or consulting firms servicing short-term insurance clients — motor insurance, extended warranties, tyre and rim policies, service and maintenance plans, or credit-related insurance experience is all a strong fit.

Salary

R1,500,000 – R1,800,000+ CTC per annum, depending on seniority, qualification and current benefits.
