Accountant

Role Purpose

The Junior Accountant will assist with the day-to-day accounting, tax, and compliance functions. This role is suited to someone who is building their career in accounting, is eager to learn, and takes pride in producing accurate and reliable work. The position requires a strong sense of responsibility, attention to detail, and the ability to work within deadlines while being supported by senior team members.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Duties:

• Capture and process accounting transactions accurately and timeously
• Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
• Perform bank, creditor, and debtor reconciliations
• Assist with VAT calculations and VAT201 submissions
• Support the preparation of year-end financial statements
• Maintain accurate working papers and audit files

Tax & Statutory Compliance:

• Assist with provisional tax, income tax, and PAYE calculations
• Support SARS submissions and follow-ups under supervision
• Assist with CIPC-related compliance (annual returns, basic updates)
• Support trust and statutory compliance tasks as required

Client & Administrative Support:

• Liaise with clients to obtain outstanding information and documentation
• Maintain client records and documents on firm systems
• Ensure client information is accurate, up to date, and properly filed
• Assist seniors and auditors with ad hoc tasks and deadlines.

Internal Systems & Controls:

• Use firm systems in accordance with internal procedures
• Adhere to the company's policies, deadlines, and quality standards
• Maintain confidentiality of client and firm information at all times

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

• Relevant accounting qualification (completed or in progress), such as:
• BCom Accounting
• National Diploma in Accounting
• Similar recognised qualification

Experience:

• 2–4 years’ experience in an accounting or finance environment (training contracts / articles advantageous but not required)
• Technical Skills
• Basic understanding of accounting principles and standards
• Knowledge of VAT and general tax concepts (advantageous)
• Proficiency in MS Excel and MS Word
• Experience with accounting software (advantageous; training provided)

Pay: R35 000,00 - R40 000,00 per month
